Childhood Complaints and Reflexology

Always seek advice from your GP first if you are concerned in any way about your child's health.

Remember that Reflexology is complementary to many conventional treatments and can often help by targeting 'reflex points' on the feet that are associated with the condition.

Babies and Children's Reflexology treatments are much shorter than those of adults. They are usually much quicker to respond and most are completed within 15 minutes or even less.

Some childhood conditions which have improved with reflexology include:

Infantile colic is usually prompted by gas in the intestine and can cause baby much pain and discomfort in the early months of life. It can cause new parents to panic and become exhaused at a time when a new mother needs all the rest she can get!

By gently working on the corresponding reflex points of the intestines, where the congestion lies, and the diaphragm and Solar Plexus points, for relaxation, Reflexology encourages babies to respond quickly and as the discomfort subsides they calm down and fall asleep.

Like the rest of us, babies can suffer with constipation at times, especially as their immature digestive system adjusts to food that is introduced into their diet.

By working on the diaphragm reflex points on the feet to help relax the child, the intestinal tract and other reflex points to stimulate elimination, most children respond quite quickly to the treatment.

Eczema & other skin problems

Eczema and other skin irritations are very common in babies and children.

Reflexology helps eczema by working to balance the glands of the endocrine system to get the body into a state of balance. Many relaxation techniques will be included in the treatment to calm the child an aid self-healing.

Glue Ear

A build up of fluid sometimes occurs in the middle-ear due to the malfunction of the Eustachian Tube. This sometimes follows a cold, particularly in small children, and can cause painful earache.

By working on all the 'senses' reflexes, especially the ear reflex, the body is encouraged to 'get back into balance' and stimulate the drainage of excess fluid by speeding up the body's own natural self-healing process. Reflexology also works to ease the pain and discomfort caused by this problem with the relaxation techniques employed throughout.

Respiratory Ailments (Colds, Asthma, Allergies, & Hayfever)

Respiritary complaints such as Asthma can be frightening for both you and your baby or child.

By stimulating the Solar Plexus, diaphragm, chest, lung and bronchial Reflex points on the child's feet, Reflexology can help by releasing the anxiety and panic experienced. Tension in the chest is also relieved and calmed with relaxation techniques.

Sleep problems

Often children are tired enough, at the end of a long day, to fall asleep easily, but sometimes worries and anxieties can prevent them from 'dropping off', as with adults.

Working on the feet with relaxation techniques for a 10 - 15 minute session, together with targeting the endocrine glands to rebalance the system, is often all that is required to send them off to sleep.

Teething problems

Teething can be miserable for both parents and baby, At times it is easy to feel inadequate and feel there is nothing you can do to relieve it.

But with a 10-minute session of Reflexology gently working on baby’s teeth and gum reflexes together with relaxation techniques can be a safe way to ease their discomfort.
